Ntora Angli Nicosia regional Officer and Janice Ruffle Founder of FITA

Since the launch of FITA in January 2010, the Group has rapidly expanded with new Members teaming-up together to generate awareness in Cyprus of female artists, artisans and designers.

CORPORATE EXPANSION

The Paphos HQ is proud to announce the appointment of their Regional Officer; Ntora Angeli ANTORA JEWELS Website: http://www.antorajewels.com Email: antora@antorajewels.com 99716700.

“Thank you for giving me the title as a Regional Officer in Nicosia of the Female Artists of Cyprus. I really appreciate this and will offer my best services to keep an organised established group,” says Ntora.

NTORA PROFILE

“Having a vivid imagination is like looking into heaven”, says Ntora, who was born in London by Cypriot parents.  She always had a creative mind from a young child while she used to sit in a corner and enjoy drawing people’s faces. Returning back to Cyprus at the age of 14 all her creativity talents went to sleep until a couple of years ago when she started making jewellery for herself and friends.  Finally her passion returned back to discover her true self again. In the year 2007 she attended a Jewellery course with the Ministry of Education and Culture in Cyprus and then she was able to move forward creatively and positively.

Ntora has attended different public events where she has been able to display her jewellery. Her first public exhibition took place in November 2009 at the Pantheon Cultural Association in Nicosia.

At the end of 2009 Ntora opened a Handicraft Gift & Jewellery Shop in Nicosia. Her love and passion for art inspired her to open a shop to display and sell her designs as well as art and designs by other local artists. It is a great joy for Ntora to give local artists the opportunity to display their work and she is proud to have them with her.

Ntora sells her designs mainly to local customers in Cyprus. She is also a member of the magazines: Beading Daily & Jewellery Artist and some of her designs are displayed on the internet by Interweave Press.  Ntora has a strong passion with a vivid imagination when creating jewellery, she enjoys experimenting with different pieces each time using a variety of techniques. Along the way she has discovered that wire wrapped jewellery has become more attractive and more interesting. No two designs are alike, every piece is inspired by its own name and meaning.

FITA MEMBER BENEFIT

Mary Chojnowski, Tsada Village has been a Member of FITA from the beginning. Her mosaic work in Cyprus has excelled, teaching in schools and by private and church commissions.

Celebrating a new creative venture together, Greek Orthodox Bishop Giorgios gave his blessing to the latest mosaic for St Paul’s Pillar church, Kato Paphos.  Another mosaic for the community created with the help of young people and Mary.

There is a strong tradition of mosaic art in Cyprus from the early Roman and Christian period onward. The Art Department at ISOP has undertaken a challenging project to create a number of large mosaics which will decorate the school in years to come.

All classes from Kindergarten to Year 9 were involved in a recent project, involving the younger pupils sorting out the colours and the older ones doing the actual placing of the pieces and the grouting.  The mosaic designs were sketched by the students and supervised by the art teachers, Mrs. Afxentiou and Mary herself.

“Artists joined us too, which was great as they could see the whole process involved in community projects celebrating the affirmation of Artists and generating awareness for the children involved. It makes everyone aware of the importance of Artists working with organisations like schools, businesses and community ventures. This is something I would love to spread out to more schools and colleges in Cyprus and bring other Artists on board too,” says Mary.

“Membership to FITA has provided me with opportunities to develop my mosaic work in Cyprus through networking and seminars. A FITA invitation to a recent business conference, allowed me the opportunity to address delegates on the benefits of FITA which resulted in press coverage, acquiring me an educational contract in Limassol.”

EXPOS

FITA Expos are International events which embrace female led creativity from not only Cyprus but also England, Scotland, Romania, Slovakia, Holland, Germany and Russia.

Exhibitions reflect the creative talents of those women who have worked in Cyprus on both commercial and private commissions. All work on show will be available for purchase and with the festive season only a few weeks away gifts purchased here will include hand crafted bracelets, rings, necklaces and ear rings, mock Faberge style eggs, glorious textiles, dolls and pottery, timeless sandstone paintings, paintings, silks, and mosaics.
